Nowadays, we can find various upholstery materials in the market which includes leather, PVC, PU leather and some more choices. Among all the materials, we can easily find that some of them are more durable and easier to clean than others. Some of them are expensive than others while some of them are very cheap material and easy to find.
As the recent trend states that people begin to realize the importance of ecological material. Responding to their interests, we could find that there is a faux revolution popularized throughout the world. Genius leather is less used while more substitutes are used more frequently. For massage tables, we can find that the most commonly used two types of materials are PVC and PU leather.

PU leather
PU stands for Polyurethane. PU leather also known as bicast leather or sometimes described as split leather. It is a plastic that can take on many forms and can be used in many different ways. At Lierre, we use PU leather as the upholstery to cover our massage tables. There are several reasons for that, the two most important reasons are it is more durable and eco-friendly than PVC material. It is the closest option to genius leather while it is more economical. Although genius leather is the most durable option among various options, it is much more expensive and it is easy to get oil satins on.
A PU leather massage table is easy to maintain and clean, at the same time it is very soft and nice against the bare skin. Apart from that, it is very strong and can keep for a very long period. You do not want to invest your money in a cheap massage table with low quality upholstery which can only last you for few months. If the upholstery starts to peel off or crack, it is not comfortable to lie down on it even with a good blanket to cover the massage table.
In terms of appearance, a classic PU leather massage table looks luxurious and very similar to a genius leather massage table as well. And it is toxic free which means even people who has sensitive skin will not have a problem with PU leather.
PVC
Polyvinyl chloride, more correctly but unusually poly(vinyl chloride), commonly abbreviated PVC, is the third-most widely produced synthetic plastic polymer, after polyethylene and polypropylene.
PVC is another option for upholstery since it can be soften and elasticized to meet different kinds of requirements. High-quality PVC such as Medical-Grade PVC is not toxic and is resistant to stains. However, compare to PU leather, it is not as comfortable as PU leather. PU leather is much softer and nicer against bare skin.
PVC Vinyl leather is generally the norm and is synthetic leather. You could find it on imitation leather sofa very often.
Some manufacturers tend to use PVC on massage table since the material price is lower than PU leather.
